Electric Spinach Supports Get Living to Deploy Portfolio-Wide Safe, Smart & Future-Proofed EV Charging Assets
East Village, Olympic Park, Stratford:
East Village had 11 separate plots with numerous legacy EV Chargers, which were approximately 10 years old. The EV Chargers did not have the safety technology seen today in commercial EV Chargers, nor did they have the technology to implement software that would enable management functionality such as reporting, monetisation and ESG data capture.
The company that installed the original EV Chargers were no longer trading, and there was no associated paperwork to fall back on for technical support. We had never seen or heard of the said EV Chargers, so our first step was to attempt to contact the manufacturer. It transpired that the manufacturer had also ceased trading, but the EV Charging assets had been taken over by an organisation, where we managed to track down the parent company in Norway.
Issues Faced:
The original installer had ceased trading.
The hardware manufacturer had ceased trading.
No Technical support or associated paperwork.
Limited 3rd party support available from overseas, found via Electric Spinach Investigations.
EV units that did not meet the current UK/European standard
No ability to adhere to the UK Smart Charging regulations
No ability to monetise or capture data for reporting purposes.
After exhausting all available options, it became clear that the EV Chargers would not be fit for purpose and would need replacing.
Works included:
Guiding the management team through the process of accessing Government Grant Funding.
Reusing as much of the existing electrical infrastructure as possible, Electric Spinach replaced 26x legacy EV Charging points across 11 different plots, with 26x modern OCPP 1.6 compliant EV Chargers with cutting-edge safety features, such as built-in over-current protection, temperature monitoring & PEN fault protection.
To ensure a stable connection with the software, Electric Spinach installed multiple local routers in the under croft car park areas where Wi-Fi connections were either absent or the signal was weak.
Integrated Zaptec hardware with Fuuse Software, enabling full-service management functionality, including: billing, ESG data capture, reporting & ongoing consultancy with the client on introducing charging tariffs.
Introduced an annual safety testing schedule for the EV Chargers for continual monitoring, reactive and preventative measures and optimum performance.
